Layla and Majnun is the legendary story of a young Arab boy (Majnun) driven mad by his love for Layla. Here Majnun is depicted as a bizarre, starved figure with a mane of gold tinted hair. The man visiting him is dressed in the Qutub Shahi costume of Golconda (Hyderabad). The emaciated Majnun and the tame animals at his feet conform to the standard imagery of Majnun.
